Lubrication: Unless a locomotive has been sitting for a long period of time without use, Kato locomotives will not need lubrication prior to running. In fact, excessive lubrication can facilitate gunky buildup in your motor and impede performance.
Operating non-DCC locomotives on DCC 00 "Double zero" configuration: While with many Analog/DC locomotives it is possible to operate them on DCC systems using the "00" function to simulate a DC current, this is generally bad for higher end motors such as those used by Kato locomotives because of the underlying AC current. With the new HO P42, because of its coreless motor design, this locomotive CAN NOT be operated on a DCC system in "00" - doing so will irrepairably damage the motors and void the warranty. If you intend to operate these locomotives on a DCC system, pre-installed DCC equipped versions of the locomotive will be available in both ESU Loksound and Soundtraxx Tsunami variations (depending on your personal preference), with all DCC wiring and sound programming done in advance by Kato USA.
