N Scale North American Locomotives

Powered by EMD's turbocharged 16 cylinder, 3000hp engine, the SD40 provided more pulling power than its SD38 predecessor at the cost of greater complexity and maintenance requirements due to the turbocharged engine. Stylistically, the SD40 locomotive series sported three 48 inch radiator fans at the rear of the long hood and a straight radiator secion, unlike the flared radiator of the SD45.

The N scale SD40 models include our White LED Headlight, printed numberboards, MU hose detail, and our magnetic knuckle coupler. The mechanism is DCC-Friendly, designed for simple drop-in installation of a DCC decoder of the hobbyist's choice. This particular style of locomotive is equipped with High mounted brake cylinders on the trucks, and all models are equipped with our new profile blackened metal wheels.
