Prototype Information:
The headliner of GEs 1993 freight locomotive line was the 6 motor, 4400hp C44-9W Dash 9. Slightly longer than its predecessors at 73 feet, 2 inches, the C44-9W used a new HiAd, bolsterless low-weight truck that was designed for better grip on the rails no matter the weather. A split cooling system lowered engine temperatures and fuel consumption as well, granting these locomotives a longer operation life and lower overhead costs.
Model Features:
- DCC friendly mechanism
- Directional headlights with illuminated ditchlights and numberboards
- Powerful five pole motor with all wheel electrical pickup and blackened wheels
- Drop in DCC compatible with the Train Control Systems K1D4
About the C44-9W Chicago & North Western "Dynamic Duo" Set
In 1995, the Chicago & Northwestern was merged into the Union Pacific railroad, marking the end of more than 100 years of history. Today, the railroad continues to live on in the hearts and minds of its fans, symbolized by the two Chicago & Northwestern locomotives #8646 and #8701. These locomotives, nicknamed the dynamic duo, still wear the distinctive Chicago & Northwestern green and yellow they were originally painted in, and still carry the C&NW logo proudly emblazoned on their cabs literally the last of their kind and an important part of railroading history.
